OpenCity Italia is born from the combination of two open source projects (the first dedicated to the public area of the site, the second dedicated to the personal area and services), both published in the software reuse catalog of the public administration according to the official guidelines on the matter. Both modules - complete with all functionalities - can be freely used by all public administration authorities.
Consistently with the “cloud first” principle defined in the Three-Year Plan for IT in Public Administration, OpenCity is also available in an ACN-qualified SaaS mode, a “turnkey” solution that allows reducing the time to introduce the technology and benefiting from all services, updates, and necessary support (with the guarantee of public source code always available to the authority, to avoid any risk of technological lock-in). Authorities using OpenCity Italia are also encouraged to join Developers Italia and are supported in their journey of publishing and using software available in the Italian public administration reuse catalog as required by the CAD (Digital Administration Code) and related guidelines.
For both solutions, a 24x7 technical support service is available, as well as the possibility of activating an evolutionary maintenance service by purchasing packages of working days directly on MEPA (with the following codes, depending on the number of days: 1mev5; 1mev10; 1mev30; 1mev100). In this way, an authority can activate new services or migrate existing services to the cloud (moving them to a secure open source software used by hundreds of other authorities).
In the SaaS model, the software is managed centrally and made available to authorities on a subscription basis (which translates into an annual fee). Additional information is available by contacting us. The model can be a good solution for several reasons:

Each of the modules composing the requested solution is delivered directly in the Cloud, according to the Software as a Service (SaaS) formula using Amazon Web Services IaaS and PaaS services, which are in turn ACN-qualified, specifically: EC2, EBS, ALB, CloudFormation, RDS, CloudWatch, Fargate, S3.
The architecture is able to offer scalability, reliability, redundancy, and security - characteristics it partly inherits from Amazon’s proven network infrastructure and data centers, and partly from the application component, which is able to adapt to the dynamic context of the underlying infrastructure.
AWS provides the ability to increase or decrease capacity (computing, storage, bandwidth) based on the workload the service is subjected to. These changes occur within minutes and in almost all cases completely automatically and transparently to the end user. The workload is distributed across multiple servers (to ensure reliability and redundancy) through specific load balancers, and the number of servers itself varies depending on the required computing or the exclusion of malfunctioning servers.
The data hosted and managed by the application remains within the European geographical context, in compliance with current regulations and in particular with personal data protection regulations.
